Written the simplest way you can imagine, this very short story written by Isaac Asimov is. Review 2: It has been a while since I read something that made me think so deeply about life, religion and God. He penned numerous short stories, among them Nightfall, which in 1964 was voted by the Science Fiction Writers of America the best short science fiction story. The final sentence left me slightly confused, however, as I debated on whether it was hinting towards the religious significance of that exclamation. The sense of powerlessness is repeated in each iteration of the question, leaving the readers with building suspense as the end drew near. It is a quick read and very thought-provoking, which surprised me considering it had science-fiction elements that are still relevant in the genre today. The story begins with the omniscient narrator informing the readers that the last question was first raised, half-jokingly, on May 21, 1961, at a time when humanity has just succeeded in a technological development that will permanently change the future of the planet. Review 1: "The Last Question" is a short story written half a century ago discussing the nature of entropy and the end of the universe. ![]()
